London-based women's health startup Unravel Health has raised €2.96 million (£2.5 million) to develop a compact testing device designed to measure multiple hormones from saliva samples at home. The investment round was led by Conduit EIS Impact Fund and Wrightwood, with participation from Leo Capital, Embryo Ventures, Hermesa and existing investor Zinc VC. <Cite refs={["turn296633search0","turn296633search4"]}/>
Founded in 2024 by Veronika Bridgman, Liza Levy and Dr. Alexandra Oti, the company is working to improve how people understand hormonal changes over time. Bridgman leads the business as CEO, Levy serves as Chief Commercial Officer, and Oti is Chief Medical Officer. <Cite refs={["turn296633search0","turn296633search7"]}/>
The startup's central product, called Micro Lab, is a palm-sized device intended to deliver hormone readings within minutes without requiring a traditional blood draw or laboratory visit. It analyses saliva, which contains hormones at very low concentrations that have historically made accurate measurement outside specialist laboratories difficult.
The technology is being developed to measure oestradiol, a major form of oestrogen, alongside three other key hormones. By collecting readings repeatedly, the device aims to build a more detailed picture of hormonal fluctuations than occasional clinical tests can provide. Wearables may track related physiological signals continuously, but they generally estimate hormone levels rather than measuring the hormones themselves. Unravel wants to bridge that gap with direct biological measurements. <Cite refs={["turn296633search0","turn296633search1"]}/>
The underlying biosensor technology emerged from nearly a decade of research at the University of Glasgow and is protected by three granted patents, according to the company. Its wider ambition is to create a longitudinal data platform that connects hormone readings with symptoms, helping users and healthcare professionals investigate patterns that may otherwise be difficult to identify.
Unravel's initial focus is women's hormonal health, including changes associated with different stages of life. Over time, the company sees potential applications beyond reproductive health, as the same underlying approach has also been used to investigate other biomarkers, including those relevant to cardiovascular health and prostate cancer. <Cite refs={["turn296633search0","turn296633search1"]}/>
The new funding will support independent studies comparing the device's performance with established testing methods, the addition of further biological markers and the beginning of the regulatory approval process. Unravel plans to make its first devices available through early-access programmes in 2027, working with partners in pharmacies, digital health and clinical research. The round builds on more than €1.18 million in earlier support from Innovate UK, the Medical Research Council, SBRI, strategic angel investors and Zinc. <Cite refs={["turn296633search0","turn296633search4"]}/>
By making repeated hormone measurements more accessible, Unravel aims to generate richer data about how the body changes over time. The company is betting that better information, collected outside conventional laboratories, could help advance women's health research and support more informed conversations between patients and clinicians.
