Italy’s Clastix Raises €2.9 Million With Mistral Backing to Build Sovereign Kubernetes Infrastructure

Italy-based Clastix has raised €2.9 million in a seed funding round to expand its Kubernetes infrastructure platform and support the development of sovereign, AI-ready infrastructure across Europe. The round was led by CDP Venture Capital SGR, with participation from Mistral and VERTIS SGR through its Vertis Venture 6 Digital Sud fund, which is partly financed by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme.
Founded by Adriano Pezzuto, co-founder and CEO, and Dario Tranchitella, co-founder and CTO, Clastix was built around the challenges enterprises face when managing Kubernetes across multiple teams, customers and environments. The company develops infrastructure designed to reduce the operational complexity and infrastructure overhead that grows as Kubernetes deployments scale.
At the heart of its technology is Kamaji, Clastix’s open-source Hosted Control Plane engine, which allows multiple tenant Kubernetes clusters to run their control planes on shared infrastructure. Kamaji remains available under the Apache 2.0 licence and has become the foundation for Clastix’s commercial platform, kMetal.
With kMetal, Clastix is taking this approach further by providing a platform for running production Kubernetes directly on bare-metal infrastructure without a separate hypervisor layer. The platform combines hosted control planes, tenant isolation, fleet management and secure GPU pooling, making it particularly relevant for organisations operating AI and GPU-intensive workloads.
Clastix says its technology is already being used in production by infrastructure teams across Europe and North America, including organisations in AI, telecommunications, cloud services and the public sector. Its customer and technology ecosystem includes companies such as Mistral AI, NVIDIA, IONOS and OVHcloud.
Mistral’s investment also reflects the growing importance of infrastructure in Europe’s AI ecosystem. Mistral co-founder and CTO Timothée Lacroix said Clastix’s multi-tenancy and managed control-plane technology supports Mistral’s training and inference infrastructure at scale.
The new funding will be used to expand Clastix’s research and development, customer success, solutions engineering and go-to-market operations. The company plans to further optimise its platform for AI-scale workloads, continue developing Kamaji and expand into new markets as demand for sovereign and independently controlled infrastructure grows.
