Biograil, a Copenhagen-based BioTech enterprise creating an oral capsule to administer therapeutics typically requiring injections, has successfully secured a €20 million funding round.
The investment was supported by Verve Ventures and Megatrend Invest. HTGF, which spearheaded the firm’s Seed syndicate back in 2019, took part through its HTGF Opportunity growth fund. Back in July 2025, the startup had already disclosed the initial closing of an €8.5 million financing round led by Verve Ventures.
“हम पहली बार 2019 में Biograil में इसलिए निवेश किया क्योंकि हमने इसके ओरल ड्रग डिलीवरी के दृष्टिकोण में क्षमता देखी थी। HTGF Opportunity में हमारी भागीदारी उस क्षमता में हमारी निरंतर दृढ़ conviction को दर्शाती है क्योंकि कंपनी臨床 विकास के लिए तैयार हो रही है,” said Anke Cassing, Principal at HTGF.
Established in 2019, Biograil notes that it utilizes its proprietary BIONDD technology to convert the vast market of injectable pharmaceuticals into easy-to-take oral capsules.
As explained by the enterprise, the BIONDD device fits inside a standard double-zero or single-zero capsule that is simple to swallow. Once ingested, the capsule dissolves in the stomach and releases a spring-loaded grasping mechanism. This device then securely grips the stomach wall and dispenses medication directly into the tissue for systemic circulation.
The Biograil system uses an innovative mechanism to facilitate the delivery of biologics straight into the stomach wall, relying on a proprietary platform technology built via injection moulding. Following drug administration, the bio-compostable device travels harmlessly through the gastrointestinal tract.
Biograil CEO Karsten Lindhardt shared, “Excellent to see such strong support from existing internal investors and involve the HTGF Opportunity growth fund in the round. This, in combination with non-diluting funding from partnerships, will enable Biograil to continue to move our BIONDD® technology toward Phase 1 clinical studies.
“The BIONDD® technology can allow oral delivery of large market compounds for better convenience and medical benefit and, in addition, create development opportunities for new innovative combination products which may never have been feasible or attractive as conventional injectable or oral products”.
The firm intends to allocate these funds toward ongoing preparations for the scheduled Phase 1 clinical evaluations of BIONDD®, reaching vital milestones such as non-clinical GLP studies and establishing a manufacturing GMP process prior to a larger financing event in 2027.
The Biograil roster brings together veteran entrepreneurs skilled in scaling successful BioTech companies alongside the R&D leaders responsible for the world’s first FDA-approved injection-moulded oral tablet.
Its investor group features Megatrend Invest, Verve Ventures, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Eli Lilly and Co., Sanner Ventures, Evonik Venture Capital, Anobis GmbH, and Roquette Ventures.
