Berlin-Based mika Raises €6 Million to Scale Its AI-Native Alternative to Traditional Tax Firms - Prime World Media Funding News

Berlin-based mika has raised €6 million in a Seed funding round to scale its AI-native financial operating system for Germany’s small and medium-sized businesses. The round was led by Smedvig Ventures, with participation from Wecken & Cie. (Care4 AG), Dennis Bemmann and Michael Brehm, co-founders of studiVZ, limango founder Johannes Ditterich, and Martina Pfeifer of encourageventures. Existing investors Keen Venture Partners and Dutch Founders Fund also increased their stakes.

Founded in 2022, mika is building an alternative to the traditional tax-firm model for German limited companies, particularly GmbHs and UGs. Rather than simply digitising existing accounting processes, the company has built an AI-native financial operating system that handles bookkeeping, VAT returns, annual accounts and tax filings.

The company is led by founder and CEO Agnieszka Walorska, alongside co-founder and CFO Lukas Linnekuhle and co-founder and CTO Henry Müssemann. Walorska founded mika after experiencing the complexity of accounting and tax administration herself, while Linnekuhle and Müssemann joined to build the company's financial and technology infrastructure.

At the centre of mika's platform is an AI-native general ledger designed specifically for German accounting. The system reads receipts and payments, categorises transactions, records entries and explains them to users. Different AI models are used depending on the task, while trained accountants review the results and intervene when cases require human expertise.

mika also allows customers to interact with their financial data using natural language, either within its platform or through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) with AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude. Users can upload correspondence from tax authorities and receive explanations of what the documents mean and what actions may be required. Individual tax advice is not currently provided directly by the platform and is instead handled through licensed tax advisers in mika's network.

The company has reported rapid customer growth. Around 400 GmbHs and UGs were using mika at the beginning of 2026, compared with more than 750 currently. Its customer base has expanded from digital-first businesses such as agencies and consultancies into SaaS, property, e-commerce, retail and skilled trades. mika also reported passing €1 million in annual recurring revenue in July 2026, with revenue growing by more than 20% month over month.

The new funding will be used to support further product development and growth as mika expands its AI-native approach to accounting and tax compliance across Germany's large base of small businesses.
