OpenAI Eyes $1.2 Trillion Valuation in Fresh Funding Talks Ahead of Potential 2027 IPO - Prime World Media Funding News

OpenAI is reportedly in early discussions with investors for a new funding round that could value the ChatGPT maker at around $1.2 trillion, potentially setting up another major capital raise before the company considers going public.

The discussions come only months after OpenAI closed its latest funding round with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion post-money valuation. The company said the capital would help expand AI infrastructure, research, products and compute capacity as demand for its systems continues to grow.

OpenAI, founded in 2015, has developed into one of the world's most prominent AI companies through products including ChatGPT and its developer platform. Under co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, the company is expanding beyond AI models into a broader technology stack covering applications, developer tools and computing infrastructure. OpenAI says ChatGPT has more than 900 million weekly active users, while more than 9 million paying business users rely on its products for work.

The potential new financing would come as OpenAI continues investing heavily in the infrastructure required to train and operate increasingly capable AI systems. The company has announced major compute partnerships with companies including NVIDIA, Amazon and Broadcom, while also developing its own AI accelerator technology.

OpenAI's most recent financing valued the company at $852 billion, meaning a $1.2 trillion valuation would represent a substantial increase in just months. However, the latest funding discussions are still preliminary and were reportedly initiated by investor interest, so the final size, valuation and timing of any transaction could change.

The funding talks are also unfolding alongside a potential IPO. OpenAI has reportedly been preparing for a public listing, but Altman has indicated that an IPO in 2026 would not be appropriate, putting 2027 or later in focus instead.

For investors and the broader AI industry, the proposed valuation highlights the enormous amount of capital being directed toward frontier AI, while also underscoring the infrastructure costs associated with scaling these systems globally.
